Volcano ash air traffic trouble: supporting community self-organising

#1

We are currently testing if Ushahidi could be used for community self-organisation:

to aggregate news sources (for example to have an easier complete overview regarding "my" particular request, which is depending on local situation, destination status, alternatives etc)

to share transportation

to allow for group clustering around up to date location-based infos (where to go, hotels, ...)

Principle idea is to share "back" the info each person is learning. "I am looking for a hotel and along the way put back all info which I acquired on my exploration path."

here is our first "alpha" site (please don't abuse, as we have hosted it on amazon where we pay for traffic. If the site should be unavailable to due too much traffic, please send me an email):

  1. tips for Ushahidi on Amazon AWS are appreciated

  2. by default, incoming messages should be approved. Tips about how to do that are welcome :-)

  3. we are looking for a (better?) name, any ideas?

  4. anybody interested in participating?

  5. Is it possible with clickatell to use shared incoming SMS cheaply?

  6. would it be useful to integrate Swift River for more automation? If yes, what would be the best way?

What do you think?
