hey...can i use smssync on a website that is not ushahidi powered or based? if not which android app could i use?

Yes you can!

Your website simply needs to handle the POST/GET data that are sent by SmsSync, and send the response as JSON. SmsSync currently uses GET to check for messages to send out, and POST for received messages.

SmsSync posts to the following variables:

On SMS message received:

secret=the "secret" (password) specified in the SmsSync app

from=the phone number that sent the SMS message

message=the SMS message text

On check for messages to send out:

task="send"

Take a look at the SmsSync plugin controller here, where all the communication with the Android app is handled. You can also see how the JSON is constructed.
